FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University Auditorium will present its annual, family-friendly holiday tradition Chimes of Christmas Dec. 9 (Wednesday), at 7:30 p.m.
Chimes of Christmas will feature the IU Jacobs School of Music Wind Ensemble, conducted by Stephen W. Pratt and the Grammy-nominated Singing Hoosiers, conducted by Michael Schwartzkopf. The Singing Hoosiers, the country's premier collegiate show choir, was invited to perform at the Inaugural Ball in Washington, D.C., in January 2009. The Trombone Choir, conducted by Carl Lenthe, will perform in the lobby before the show.
Songs featured at this year's performance include "Dona Nobis Pacem," "The Hallelujah Chorus," "Carol of the Drum" and "The First Noel."
"The concert 'rings in' the beginning of Christmas for many," said Schwartzkopf. "We present many of the traditional songs on both the serious and lighter sides of Christmas, and the talent and energy of these talented performers adds to the excitement."
Emily Levin, a finalist of the 17th International Harp Competition, also will perform in this year's Chimes of Christmas. Traditions such as the carol singalong will be featured, and, as always, the evening will be completed with a visit from Santa Claus.
"Chimes of Christmas is a wonderful holiday tradition in Bloomington," said Doug Booher, director of IU Auditorium. "Our audience loves Chimes as much as the students who perform in it. It is a magical holiday evening."
Chimes of Christmas is one of two major concerts performed by the Singing Hoosiers each year in addition to multiple road shows and alumni performances. The Singing Hoosiers also will perform a spring concert at IU Auditorium in March.
The Tudor Room at Indiana Memorial Union, 900 E. Seventh St., will offer a "Chimes Tudor Room Buffet" before the performance starting at 5:30 p.m. To make reservations, call the Tudor Room at 812-855-1620.
Chimes of Christmas is sponsored by the Indiana University Foundation and the IU Credit Union. The IU Auditorium 2009-2010 season is presented by Curry Auto Center, B97, The Herald-Times, Indiana University Document Service Center, Indiana University Residential Programs and Services and Ivy Tech Community College.
