IU's Kelley School sponsors international workshop focused on interdisciplinary frontiers in IT

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Information technology researchers and practitioners will travel to Phoenix next week (Dec. 14-15) for the 19th annual Workshop on Information Technologies and Systems (WITS). The workshop, co-organized by a Kelley School of Business professor, will be held before the annual International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), which is currently in its 30th year.

This year's WITS is organized by Kelley School of Business Information Systems Professor Vijay Khatri and his colleague at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Huimin Zhao. The theme is "Interdisciplinary Frontiers in Information Technology Innovation." Thirty-six papers will be presented, addressing a wide variety of topics including collaborative filtering, information diffusion and personalized recommendation, healthcare, data mining, product distribution and supply networks, emerging e-business models, data and knowledge management, text mining and web mining, and social computing.
"Kelley's operations and decision technologies department is excited to support WITS, one of the most prestigious conferences in technical information systems research, as it provides a forum for discussion and interaction among scholars with interests in a wide range of topics that are not only consonant with our departmental research interests but are of fundamental interest to practitioners today," said Ash Soni, department chair and professor of operations and decision technologies at Kelley.
Highlights of the workshop include the keynote address by Indiana entrepreneur Alisa Wright, CEO of BioConvergence, and discussion panels chaired by Alan Hevner of the University of South Florida and Sudha Ram of the University of Arizona. The keynote speaker will discuss how the life science industry needs to create information systems solutions that link diagnostic, pharmaceutical and medical device companies.
"WITS -- in its nineteenth year -- is considered as the definitive forum for collegial discussion and interaction among scholars with research interests in cutting edge issues of information technologies and systems," Khatri said.
Kelley Professor of Information Systems Ramesh Venkataraman, who also chairs the school's information systems graduate program, has been nominated for the best innovation in teaching award for the paper "An Innovative Approach to Teaching IT Governance, Risk and Controls." The paper is coauthored with Kelley alum and visiting lecturer Justin Greis of Ernst & Young.
