Media advisory: IU to host forum Thursday on Haiti earthquake disaster

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- With today's 6.1-magnitude aftershock causing fresh worries in Haiti, Indiana University experts and community leaders will present an educational forum and "call to action" Thursday, Jan. 21, on the Haiti earthquake disaster.
Titled "Decoding Disaster: Understanding the Haiti Earthquake of 2010," the forum aims to provide information and perspective about historical, political, cultural, environmental, and economic realities in Haiti, both pre- and post-earthquake.
After presentations by faculty members, students and others, there will be announcements of developing campus and community activities to help the people of Haiti. The public and the news media are invited to attend.

WHERE: Alumni Hall, Indiana Memorial Union, 900 E. Seventh St., Bloomington
WHO: Presenters will include IU Vice President Patrick O'Meara, Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan, IU faculty members Bradley Levinson, Michael Hamburger, Oana Panaite, Matthew Auer and Beth Gazley, and Haitian/Haitian-American students David Tezil, Wideline Seraphin and Solfils Telfort.
