FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 1, 2010
GARY, Ind. -- Indiana University Northwest will host finalists starting this week as the campus continues the process of naming a new chancellor.
Two finalists for the position will visit the campus to meet with faculty, staff, students and community members. Following those visits, the next step will be for the university search committee that identified the finalists to meet again and make further recommendations to President Michael McRobbie. McRobbie will make the selection subject to approval by the IU Board of Trustees.
The campus visit dates and the finalists are:
- William Lowe, provost and vice president for academic affairs, Metropolitan State University, in St. Paul, Minn. -- March 4
- Valentine James, provost and vice president for academic affairs, Clarion University of Pennsylvania, in Clarion, Pa. -- March 9
"I am pleased with the progress of the search and impressed with the enthusiasm and quality of the candidates," said Edwin Marshall, IU Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Multicultural Affairs and chair of the search committee.
Lowe has been at Metropolitan State University since 2003 and is also a professor of history. In addition to serving as provost and vice president for academic affairs, he served as interim president from 2007 to 2008. From 1997 to 2003 he was vice president for academic affairs at The College of Saint Rose.
James has been provost and vice president for academic affairs at Clarion University since 2008 and is also a professor of public policy. Prior to joining Clarion, he was a dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and then of Graduate Studies at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina from 2004-2008.
More information on the candidates is available at: https://www.iu.edu/~vppp/recruitment/IUNorthwestChancellor.shtml
President McRobbie appointed the 12-member search committee in September 2009 to identify and interview candidates for the position. The new chancellor will replace current IU Northwest Chancellor Bruce Bergland, who is retiring after having served as chief executive officer of the Gary, Ind., campus since July, 1999.
