Annual SPEA Auction and Gala to take place Friday
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 1, 2010
BLOOMINGTON, IN -- The School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University Bloomington will present its fifth annual Auction and Gala on Friday, April 2, from 7-10 p.m. at Alumni Hall in the Indiana Memorial Union, 900 E. Seventh St.
The cocktail-attire event is a fundraiser entirely organized by students in which 100 percent of the proceeds go directly back to the student body. The earnings from the evening's event will go toward scholarships for SPEA master's degree and Ph.D. candidates seeking additional monetary support for low-paying or unpaid internships or research pursuits.
The SPEA Auction and Gala is an opportunity for students, university staff and faculty and community members to come together to help raise funds for internships or professional development opportunities that students may otherwise find unfeasible because of financial constraints. Past events have helped to provide scholarships of up to $2,000 and have funded internship opportunities including World Vision and Children's Aid Mission International in San Lucas, Guatemala.
The night's festivities will include live entertainment, hors d'ouevres and the opportunity for attendees to bid on silent and live auction items to raise money for a worthy cause. Items auctioned off in the past have included autographed sports memorabilia and family vacations.
Tickets are available at the SPEA Tavis Smiley Atrium this week and at the door on the night of the Auction and Gala. They are $20 for general admission and at the door, $15 for students if purchased in advance.
