The conference is free and registration is available by visiting the IURTC Web site or at the event, which will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at University Place Conference Center on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus. It's being sponsored by ProLiance Energy and IURTC, with additional support from the IUPUI Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and the IUPUI Solution Center.

Wilkes is cofounder of ImmuneWorks, a biotechnology company originated at IUSM that is developing novel therapeutics for patients with autoimmune lung disorders like chronic lung transplant rejection and Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), devastating and usually fatal lung diseases for which today there are no cures. He is the executive associate dean for research affairs and the August M. Watanabe Professor for Medical Research at IUSM, and a professor of medicine, microbiology, immunology and biochemistry at IUSM, where he also directs the Center for Immunobiology.

Wilkes will offer the keynote during the noon to 1 p.m. lunch. IURTC vice president for technology commercialization Marie Kerbeshian will welcome attendees immediately following the 8:30 to 8:50 a.m. on-site registration. Guest speakers prior to lunch include Ken Green of Spring Mill Venture Partners, Gary Anderson of Pennsylvania's TL Ventures and Wade Lange of ImmuneWorks. IURTC business development managers will then facilitate concurrent break-out sessions on the topics "Who's the CEO?" "Common pitfalls of equity," and "Fail like a pro: Failure is not a four letter word!" Those sessions will run from 11 a.m. to noon.
