IU's SoFA Gallery to feature work of Indiana artists in 'Blank Slate' series
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 19, 2010
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University's School of Fine Arts Gallery is accepting proposals for its newest series of open exhibitions, "Blank Slate," featuring work from artists across the state of Indiana.
Artists, students and curators who are Indiana residents are eligible to apply for the series, which will take place in the 2011 exhibition season. The gallery is accepting proposals for group or solo shows from artists working in all mediums.
A small stipend for material costs relating to the exhibition will be made available to the selected exhibitors.
"With the current state of the economy, there aren't a lot of opportunities for artists to display their work," said Tyson Skross, associate director of the SoFA Gallery. "Galleries are closing down and there's a lack of teaching jobs. It's especially important for us to offer exhibition opportunities for artists because we are part of Indiana University and the Indiana community."
Clear, concise proposals that present innovative, original and engaging ideas will receive the strongest consideration, Skross said.
"This is unusual in the fact that it's completely open thematically," said Skross. "Having an open call like this will add vitality to the program and gallery, and we are looking forward to seeing what we get from Indiana artists."
All proposals must be postmarked by Aug. 1, 2010. Submission guidelines can be viewed at https://www.indiana.edu/~sofa/files/proposal_guidelines.pdf.
