Musical Arts Center temporarily closed
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Musical Arts Center (MAC) on the Indiana University Bloomington campus has been closed temporarily for abatement of asbestos in the ceiling of the lobby of the facility.
Ted Alexander, university director of environmental, health and safety, said deterioration of parts of the lobby ceiling led university officials to close the facility Tuesday (May 4) while further assessment and abatement are conducted. Old heating and cooling pipes in the ceiling that were scheduled for replacement in coming years will be replaced now.
"There are no other problems in other areas of the building, but we will take samples as a part of our evaluation," Alexander said.
It is expected that the MAC will remain closed for at least one month. Performances scheduled in the MAC during that time will be moved to other venues.
