BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- ArtsWeek 2011, organized by IU's Office of the Vice Provost for Research, will focus on the importance of encouraging creativity and imagination among young people.

Celebrating its 27th year in 2011, ArtsWeek showcases the richness of artistic expression in Bloomington, Ind., and on the IU Bloomington campus. ArtsWeek will take place from Feb. 17 to Feb. 27, 2011, and will feature dozens of exhibitions, performances and family-friendly events.

"In a period of declining and strained resources for education, the ArtsWeek 2011 theme is intended to foster collaborations between K-12 teachers and students and IU units, arts organizations and/or area businesses that highlight the significance and impact of artistic activities on the lives of young people in our community," said Sherry Knighton-Schwandt, ArtsWeek coordinator and director of communications and special projects for the Office of the Vice Provost for Research at IU Bloomington.

Interested teachers and artists are encouraged to submit proposals for ArtsWeek 2011 funding. The application for ArtsWeek funding may be downloaded at www.artsweek.indiana.edu.

Information on the Anya Peterson Royce Showcase Award, which gives the winner an additional $500 to further his or her ArtsWeek project, is also available on the site.

The deadline for ArtsWeek 2011 grant proposals is Sept. 10, 2010. Applicants will receive notification regarding grants no later than Sept. 20.
