Expert panel convenes Monday on topic of Indiana life science innovation opportunities

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A group of area experts will join state and national health care leaders to focus on innovation in the life sciences during a free panel discussion Monday (Aug. 16) at the Indiana University Innovation Center.

Hoosiers Work for Health, and the Council for American Medical Innovation, in collaboration with the Indiana Health Industry Forum and the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, will convene the bioscience panel to discuss the impacts of the life sciences and medical innovation on Indiana's economy.

Dan Peterson, vice president of industry and government affairs for Cook Group Inc., will join other expert panelists Monday for a free roundtable discussion focusing on innovation in the life sciences and the part it plays in the Indiana economy.

The event is intended to provide a platform for local business owners and others involved in Indiana's high-tech sector to engage in conversation about medical innovation and its role in reducing healthcare costs, cutting the deficit, generating jobs and ensuring global competitiveness.

Featured panelists include Indiana State Representative Peggy Welch, who is also the immediate past chair of the National Conference of State Legislators Health Committee; Bart Peterson, senior vice president of corporate affairs and communications for Eli Lilly and Company; Dan Peterson, vice president of industry and government affairs, Cook Group Inc.; Candace DeMatteis, policy director for the Council for American Medical Innovation; Kristin Jones, president and chief executive officer for the Indiana Health Industry Forum; Christy Gillenwater, president and CEO, The Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce; and George Huntley, immediate past chair of the American Diabetes Association.

The event is from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and pre-registration can be completed here. The IU Innovation Center is located at 2719 East 10th St., Bloomington.
