Chris Robb named director of network operations and engineering for Internet2

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Chris Robb has been promoted to the position of director of network operations and engineering for Internet2 where he has been network operations manager since 2008 and responsible for the day-to-day operations of the nationwide Internet2 Network infrastructure.
As an assigned staff member from the Indiana University Global Research Network Operations Center (GlobalNOC), Robb will continue to be located in Bloomington, Indiana. In his former position as a network engineer with the IU GlobalNOC, Robb supervised the 18-month upgrade of the Internet2 Network, working in concert with Internet2 Network Connectors to ensure the on-time deployment of 27 new network Points of Presence.
"Chris has done a great job of coordinating GlobalNOC support for the Internet2 network," said IU Associate Vice President for Networks Dave Jent. "Chris has also been working on many of the new initiatives Internet2 has or plans to deliver to the R&E community."
In his new position, Robb will drive the expansion of the Internet2 Network as part of the recently announced United States Unified Community Anchor Network (U.S. UCAN), a $97-million project partially funded by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration's Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP). The project will connect over 60,000 community anchor institutions immediately and potentially hundreds of thousands of anchors institutions over the next several years. Internet2 and its partner organizations will use this stimulus funding source over the next three years to upgrade the Internet2 infrastructure.
