BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Eleven incoming freshmen at Indiana University Bloomington have been selected as Kelley Scholars by IU's Kelley School of Business.

As Kelley Scholars, the students intend to major in business and will receive tuition and fees. They also will receive a stipend for living expenses and other funding, which may cover the opportunity for overseas study. The award is for four years and has an annual value of more than $14,000 for Indiana residents and more than $20,000 for non-residents.

The Kelley Scholars Program is funded by a $23 million gift from E.W. Kelley and his family made to IU in the fall of 1997. The university named its School of Business for the Kelley family in acknowledgement of the gift.

The eleven Kelley Scholars, their high schools and hometowns are:

-- Gregory Baumer, Perry Meridian High School, Indianapolis

-- Georgia Cavvouras, Highland High School, Highland, Ind.

-- Adam Dries, Saint Xavier High School, Louisville

-- Vanessa Khuong, Bloomington High School South, Bloomington, Ind.

-- Ryan Michael Lubash, Andrean High School, Crown Point, Ind.

-- Jessica Rachel Morrison, West Lafayette Jr./Sr. High School, West Lafayette, Ind.

-- Victoria Stuart Overdorf, Lawrence Central High School, Indianapolis

-- Elise Pent, Kettering Fairmont High School, Kettering, Ohio

-- Joseph Powell, Bishop Dwenger High School, Fort Wayne, Ind.

-- Matthew Robinson, New Albany High School, New Albany, Ind.

-- Emilyn Ruble, Castle High School, Newburgh, Ind.

The Kelley Scholars were selected from a group of more than 150 students who had been accepted by IU and who were invited to apply for the Kelley Scholars program on the basis of outstanding academic records. Applications included references, high school transcripts and several personal statements -- including an essay -- on a variety of topics.

Finalists were invited to the IU Bloomington campus for a weekend earlier this year. The weekend included extensive interviews with faculty members and current Kelley Scholars. Each candidate submitted a writing sample, toured the campus and was a guest at a dinner.
