IU appoints Schunk as associate vice president for procurement

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University has appointed Jill M. Schunk as associate vice president for procurement, effective Dec. 10, 2010. Schunk will succeed Associate Vice President Lorelei Meeker who is retiring after 33 years of service to the university.
Since coming to IU as a project assistant in 1988, Schunk has held progressively responsible positions culminating in her appointment as executive director of purchasing earlier this year. In her current role, she has been jointly responsible for the successful consolidation of seven campus purchasing departments into a single entity supporting Indiana University. She has been responsible for developing and implementing a series of multi-million dollar contracts with Coca-Cola, Dell, Microsoft and Adobe that generated significant savings to IU, its students, faculty and staff.
Schunk holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University. She has been a certified purchasing manager since 1997. In 2008, she achieved Lifetime C.P.M. Certification.

"Earlier this year, Jill played a crucial role in consolidating the procurement function across all of our seven campuses," said Neil Theobald, vice president and chief financial officer. "The reorganization allowed us to offer substantially lower prices to our schools and campuses. Savings to date are already about $15 million. I am thrilled that Jill has agreed to join our management team as we pursue President McRobbie's goal of ensuring that all of the public and private resources entrusted to IU are used as effectively and efficiently as possible in pursuit of IU's academic mission."
