Upright Citizen's Brigade Touring Company to perform two free shows at IU
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jan. 13, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Upright Citizen's Brigade Touring Company will present two free, open-to-the-public comedy shows at Indiana University's Indiana Memorial Union this month at 8 p.m., Jan. 21, in the IMU State Room East, and 8 p.m., Jan. 22 in the IMU Georgian Room.
The comedy troupe served as training ground for "Saturday Night Live" comedians Horatio Sanz and Amy Poehler and "The Daily Show" actors Rob Riggle and Ed Helms (who also plays Andy Bernard on NBC's "The Office"), among many other high-profile actors and comedians.
Co-sponsoring and opening for the group both evenings is IU student improv group Awkward Silence Comedy, which mirrors the high-energy performances that the Upright Citizen's Brigade has performed since its creation in 1999.
"I think this is a great opportunity to see some of the best up-and-coming comics in the country," said Dan Haddad, the director of Comedy for the Indiana Memorial Union Board. "The Second City kind of dominates the improv scene in the Midwest, and this is a great way to bring some 'East Coast flavor' to IU without having to head to the Big Apple."
Admission for both shows is free with no ticket required.
