CACR to present 2011 Higher Education Cybersecurity Summit

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Many of the Midwest's premier cybersecurity experts will convene in Indianapolis next month as the IU Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research presents the seventh annual Higher Education Cybersecurity Summit.
This year's summit takes place April 11 (Monday) at University Conference Place on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
Summit sessions represent an opportunity to explore best practices, research, trends and innovations in information assurance. Information security is a particular challenge for academic, governmental and not-for-profit institutions.
The impact of cloud computing and mobile devices will be a key theme of the 2011 CACR Higher Education Cybersecurity Summit.
"The CACR summit provides a unique forum for both technical and policy cybersecurity experts," said CACR Deputy Director Von Welch. "As part of CACR's outreach mission, we hope to keep cybersecurity professionals abreast not only of the latest in technology, but the privacy and other policy implications that accompany the technology."
The impact of cloud computing and mobile devices takes center stage during the summit's morning session, which will be followed by a keynote address to be announced just prior to the event. Afternoon sessions are divided into policy and technical tracks, allowing those specializing in a particular field to learn the latest from respected leaders in their area.
"We're excited by a range of speakers this year from across Indiana and the U.S., including an update on state-of-the-art intrusion detection system from the leader of the widely-used "Bro" system, the latest in high-assurance federated identity management with InCommon Silver, and updates on OpenFlow and Security Assessment," Welch said.
There is no cost to attend the summit, and the public is invited to attend. Registration is required to attend, and can be done at the CACR website.
The Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research is a part of Indiana University's Pervasive Technology Institute, and affiliated with the IU Maurer School of Law. It has been designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in both Information Assurance Education and Information Assurance Research by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security.
