Senior Salute for Indiana University's class of 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 25, 2011

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Bloomington may be landlocked, but that won't stop the Indiana University Student Alumni Association and the IU Alumni Association from throwing a beach party for the class of 2011.

Senior Salute 2011

The beach-themed Senior Salute will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday (April 28) in the tent behind the DeVault Alumni Center at 1000 E. 17th St., across from Assembly Hall. In the event of rain, the party will move indoors at the DeVault Center.

This year's event features music from DJ Unique, food from area restaurants, and senior swag -- all free!

Senior Salute is the largest graduation party on the IU Bloomington campus and introduces graduating students to multiple ways to stay connected to IU long after graduation. IU schools and academic departments, alumni groups and affiliate groups will have the opportunity to connect with IU's newest graduating class at this event and tell them "congratulations!" All students graduating in 2011 -- including undergraduate, graduate and professional students -- are invited to attend this event.

"This is an opportunity to celebrate IU students becoming alumni, and we enjoy sending them to graduation with a festive event," said Conor McIntyre, director of student programs at the IU Alumni Association. "We congratulate our graduates and welcome them into the lifelong family of IU alumni."

Senior Salute will also feature live music and free food from Bruster's Real Ice Cream, Monroe County Pizza, and Buffalouie's. Door prizes include a life membership to the IUAA and other prizes to be announced. The first 1,200 attendees will receive a commemorative pint glass. Attendees may fill out a form to receive their free one-year IUAA membership.

Major sponsors of Senior Salute include the IU Foundation, Marsh Insurance, T.I.S., Liberty Mutual, the IU Varsity Club, Stevens Worldwide Van Lines and the IU Alumni Association.

Commemorative "Life's A Beach" Senior Salute T-shirts can be ordered for $10 in advance at https://alumni.indiana.edu/eventforms/seniorsalute-tshirts.

One of the largest and most active student organizations at IU Bloomington, the SAA sponsors student leadership initiatives and events such as Homecoming, Networking Nights, Leadershape IU, and business-etiquette programs.

The IU Alumni Association is dedicated to serving the university and its diverse alumni, students and friends. As one of the nation's largest alumni organizations, serving more than 540,000 graduates worldwide, the IUAA provides many programs and services to its members, nonmember alumni, and the university.
