WTIU documentary 'Harp Dreams' wins three regional Emmy awards

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 21, 2011

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The WTIU-TV documentary Harp Dreams received three regional Emmy awards from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

The awards were presented June 18 in Cleveland at the 42nd Annual Lower Great Lakes Regional Emmy Awards ceremony. The Great Lakes Chapter includes TV stations in Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Steve Krahnke, executive producer, and Susanne Schwibs, producer, received an Emmy for the overall production of Harp Dreams. Schwibs also won an Emmy for editing. Composer Cary Boyce received an Emmy for the musical score he created for the documentary.

"Harp Dreams is the result of hundreds of hours of hard work by skilled technical and creative production staff at Indiana University's Radio and TV services," Krahnke said. "It is truly remarkable that a small public television station can create programs which not only air nationwide on primetime PBS, but also garner important awards like the Regional Emmy."

Harp Dreams documents the 2007 USA International Harp Competition. Arguably the most prestigious competition for harp, it is generally considered among the most important of all music competitions. The film focuses on the performers from around the world as they compete for first prize, which will almost certainly catapult the winner into a career as a first-class musician. Footage was captured in Moscow, Zurich, Paris and the United States. Blythe Danner narrates.
