BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University Associate Vice President for International Services Christopher Viers has announced the appointment of Matthew R. Beatty as director of international admissions. Beatty will assume his new position on Sept. 26.
Beatty is currently the assistant director and recruitment coordinator in the International Student and Scholar Services office at the University of Minnesota, where he has provided strategic leadership to the office and a campus-wide international recruitment plan. He has also served Minnesota as international recruitment coordinator and international student support services specialist.
"We look forward to having Matt join our leadership team in the Office of International Services," Viers said. "He has the knowledge, competencies and skills required to lead the development and implementation of an effective international recruitment strategy while also ensuring that our admissions systems and processes provide superior service and support to prospective students and our campus partners."
Beatty has a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish with a certificate in international business management from Luther College and a master of arts degree in comparative and international development education from the University of Minnesota. He has met all requirements -- except the dissertation, which he expects to defend in 2012 -- of an Ed.D. degree in higher education policy and administration at the University of Minnesota.
He has been active in the higher education arena, making presentations at NAFSA: Association of International Educators regional and national conferences and at various other institutions of higher education, including the Overseas Association of College Admission Counselors and Regional EducationUSA. Beatty currently serves as NAFSA's national recruitment, admissions and preparation liaison to the association's 11 regions.
