BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University Student Foundation yesterday (Nov. 1) unveiled the 2012 Schwinn Little 500 bicycle as part of the kickoff celebration for the 25th running of the Women's Little 500 bicycle race on April 20th, 2012.
The bicycle, custom designed by Schwinn and IUSF, mirrors the Indiana University colors of cream and crimson. The decals are in reflective chrome to signify the 25th anniversary of the women's race, first held in 1988.
"Our collaboration with Schwinn has produced a bicycle that reflects the enthusiasm and celebrates the history of this unique event," commented Jordan Bailey, IUSF assistant director and Little 500 race coordinator. "As a strategic partner in the success of the Little 500, Schwinn has again raised the bar by providing a beautiful bicycle that will be recognized all over the world."
The bicycle was unveiled at the Women's Little 500 Open House, where current Little 500 riders were provided with a glimpse of the celebration planned for the upcoming months. They also had an opportunity to meet with alumni riders who returned to relate their experiences with the event and how they benefited as a result of their involvement in the Women's Little 500 race.
In addition to the presentation of the 2012 Women's Little 500 bicyle, those at the open house were among the first to find out about a planned time change. IUSF made it official that the 2012 Women's Little 500 will move from its traditional start time of 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
"The decision was made in order to help maximize the number of alumni returning for the event, while also creating a spectacle to highlight this 25-year milestone," Bailey said.
