Women's Philanthropy Council invites grant applications

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oct. 5, 2011

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University Women's Philanthropy Council (WPC) invites individuals and organizations at all campuses of the university to submit applications for its inaugural grant cycle.

Women's Philanthropy

All IU community members -- students, faculty and staff -- are encouraged to apply. Applications that propose to give back and provide unique opportunities to the university community are especially welcome.

"The impact of women's philanthropy is everywhere at Indiana University and in all eras, from IUB's Student Building -- a project led by IU's 10th first lady Frances Morgan Swain in 1902 -- to the Vera Bradley Chair in Oncology at IUPUI, given by IU Foundation Board and WPC member Pat Miller and renewed with another gift just last year," said IU First Lady Laurie McRobbie, co-chair of the Women's Philanthropy Council. "The WPC grants will amplify that impact at a grassroots level by helping members of the IU community launch new ventures, address critical needs and develop innovative solutions to social problems. We are very excited about this new program and very grateful to our members for supporting it."

The council hopes to award grants that will complement IU's commitment to quality educational opportunities, excellent health care, a clean and safe environment, cultural enrichment through the arts and educational programs and services.

Grants will be awarded from the WPC Fund, administered by the IU Foundation. WPC members designate a portion of their donations to the Foundation for this fund and expect to award up to $100,000 in grants during this granting cycle. Awards may range from $2,500 to $100,000. The deadline for applications is Dec. 15, 2011.

The WPC Grants Working Group will review the finalists and select those to be presented to the entire WPC membership. In March, the WPC will announce the award recipients. Recipients will be asked to submit a final report 12 months after receipt of the grant to show how funds were used and to demonstrate the impact of their projects on their campuses.
