BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Websites for the IU Alumni Association and IU Health Center, created in partnership with IU Communications, were named Official Honorees by the 16th annual Webby Awards.
Of the more than 8,000 entries submitted to the Webbys, an annual international award series that honors excellence on the Internet, fewer than 15 percent were distinguished as an Official Honoree.
"It's such an honor to be selected out of thousands of entries. The website -- words, design, photography structure and strategy -- is the product of many skilled minds and hands at IU and the IU Alumni Association, and I'm very proud of the work we did together," said Sarah Preuschl Anderson, interactive media manager for the alumni association. "IU alumni can also be proud. The Webbys honor the Web's best and brightest. This designation shows IU is producing industry-leading work."
The newly created website for the IU Alumni Association includes a storytelling component, using the themes of "home" and "spirit," and emphasizes engagement through social media. The new IU Health Center site emphasizes the center's services and low cost, and makes the site's most sought-after information -- the center's hours of operation and phone numbers -- available on every page.
"The Health Center is thrilled to have its website recognized and awarded a Webby. To be the only college health center recognized is indeed an honor," IU Health Center associate director Pete Grogg said. "Working with IU Creative Services, we set out to create a site that not only informed students and parents of our services, but also better reflected the level of quality and sophistication of the Health Center, its staff and the care delivered on a daily basis.
"One of the smartest things we did was to step back and allow the Creative Services team to fulfill their own creative vision in how to accomplish these objectives. They assessed our needs and developed a website that exceeded our expectations. It was and continues to be a terrific experience working with their team."
IU Communications now has three Webbys and three Official Honoree awards.
"The Webby Awards recognize the best of the Web each year, and it's great to consistently receive recognition for the quality of the work we do here," said Rebecca Salerno, director of IU Communications' Creative Services. "We are passionate about Indiana University, and we want students, parents and alumni to have a memorable experience using the university's websites."
