FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 18, 2012

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University Foundation President Gene Tempel has announced that Jeffrey D. Stumpf will join the foundation as senior vice president for finance and operations on June 13.

"An IU alumnus and accomplished CFO, Jeff is an exceptional fit for the IU Foundation," Tempel said. "His 20 years of experience include a background in organizational leadership, finance and budget, IT and donor relations. He exceeds the profile we established when we began this search, and I feel confident he will play a vital role in the foundation's ongoing success."

Stumpf is currently the chief financial officer and executive director of finance and administrative services for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. The largest in the state, the organization has an annual operating budget of $185 million and encompasses approximately 5,000 staff, 149 churches, 72 schools, 30 social services and administrative agencies, and 230,000 members in 39 counties in central and southern Indiana.

During his tenure at the archdiocese, Stumpf consistently improved its financial position and credit ratios, earning it the highest Moody's rating of any Catholic diocese in the country every year since the initial rating in 1996. He helped redesign the employee retirement savings plan and increased participation. Stumpf also has helped implement a new health plan and health savings account, saving more than $4 million in its first two years. In 2008, the Indianapolis Business Journal recognized his outstanding efforts by awarding him CFO of the Year for not-for-profits.

Before becoming CFO, Stumpf was controller, director of internal auditing and an internal auditor for the archdiocese over a five-year period. He first worked at Coopers & Lybrand in Indianapolis as an audit associate for two years.

After graduating from the Kelley School of Business at IU Bloomington with a Bachelor of Science in accounting in 1991, Stumpf earned an MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in 1998. He is a certified public accountant, chartered financial analyst and certified internal auditor.

"Going as far back as when I was student body treasurer at IU, all of my experience has taught me the value of dedication and teamwork," Stumpf said. "Success is the result of the efforts of many, and I look forward to playing a role on the IU Foundation team."

In his new role at the foundation, Stumpf will lead an operational team that includes finance and accounting, gift accounting and administration, human resources, information technology and real estate.

Tempel said, "I want to thank the search committee, which conducted a long and thorough search to find an exceptional professional and outstanding colleague." The 10-member search committee included representatives of the IU Foundation board of directors and staff, IU Alumni Association and IU.

Stumpf and his wife, Mary, have two sons, George and Benedict. He is involved in a number of civic activities including the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Spirit of Service, the National Catholic Risk Retention Group, United Way and the NCAA and Big Ten. He is a runner and triathlete and has completed several Ironmans and marathons, including Boston, Honolulu, New York and Indianapolis.
