BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie will preside over 2012 commencement ceremonies this spring on seven campuses statewide, where 18,019 students will be eligible to receive IU degrees. Additionally, 1,252 Purdue University degrees will be awarded through the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus.
IU Bloomington will award 8,829 degrees as it celebrates its 183rd commencement in three ceremonies, one for graduate students and two for undergraduates. A graduate ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, May 4, in Assembly Hall. Undergraduate ceremonies will take place Saturday, May 5, also in Assembly Hall, with a morning session starting at 10 a.m. and an afternoon session beginning at 3 p.m. The processions of graduates begin an hour before the start of the ceremonies.
Grammy Award-winning artist and IU Jacobs School of Music alumnus Booker T Jones will address students at both undergraduate ceremonies and receive an IU honorary doctorate of music. He is the only IU alumnus elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
David L. Carden, the United States' first resident ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), will address students at the graduate commencement ceremony. An alumnus of the IU Maurer School of Law, he will also serve as the keynote speaker at a separate ceremony for graduates of the law school.

Additional information:
With the exception of IUPUI, the above data on degrees awarded by each IU campus do not reflect Purdue University degrees, which are officially reported by that institution.
Additionally, IU's official reports do not include Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) counts of IU graduates.
For IU Bloomington, the number of graduates includes degree candidates from May, June and August, and graduate students whose degrees have been or will be awarded on a monthly basis from January 2012 to July 2012. While December commencement figures for IU Bloomington cannot be included in the May counts, it should be noted that 1,983 students were eligible to participate in the 2011 winter commencement ceremony.
For all other campuses, the figures include degree recipients from December 2011 and candidates for May, June and August 2012. Those numbers include graduate students whose degrees have been or will be conferred during the 2011-12 academic year.
