Media advisory: Earthquake simulator will be at Sheraton at Keystone Crossing on Tuesday
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 20, 2012
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana Geological Survey invites the news media to learn about and experience an "earthquake" on a portable simulator at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the lobby entrance of the Sheraton Indianapolis Hotel at Keystone Crossing.
The simulator, called a Quake Cottage, will be available for media only at that time. This is not a public event. The simulator can produce the shaking equivalent to a 5.5 to 8.0 seismic event. It is 22 feet long, 8 feet wide and 14 feet high, and is completely portable and mounted on a dual-axle trailer. The interior replicates a typical living room.
This is the kickoff to a two-year, statewide education program by Indiana Geological Survey, a research institute of Indiana University.
