Advisory: WTIU and WFIU to air special honoring Elinor Ostrom

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 14, 2012

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana Public Media will air a half-hour special tonight, "Elinor Ostrom: Celebration of a Nobel Life." The program honors Indiana University Distinguished Professor Elinor Ostrom, who died Tuesday at the age of 78.

Ostrom, the first and still only woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, is remembered for a groundbreaking career that spanned more than 50 years. She shared the 2009 economics prize with Oliver Williamson of the University of California Berkeley.

Indiana Public Media includes WFIU-FM radio and WTIU-TV television, public broadcasting stations based at IU Bloomington.

The radio special will air tonight at 7 p.m. and can be heard at 103.7 FM in the Bloomington listening area or streamed online at wfiu.org. A companion television special will air tonight at 8:30 p.m., with repeat airings at 10:30 p.m. Friday, June 15, and Sunday, June 17. WTIU can be seen over the air on Channel 30, and on Comcast cable Channel 5 in Bloomington.

"Elinor Ostrom: Celebration of a Nobel Life" will look at Ostrom's legacy, her worldwide impact and how she is being remembered. WFIU-WTIU News will be adding streaming video of the documentary to its online archive of news stories about Ostrom.
