IU honored with national CASE awards for communications efforts

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- IU Communications, the IU Alumni Association and IU Foundation received Circle of Excellence awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education for several projects in website redesign, print magazine, internal communications and special events.
The Street Smart Student Safety Campaign, started by a group of interns at IU Communications, won the Grand Gold Award for advertising campaigns, the first time Indiana University has won a Grand Gold Award. The Grand Gold Award is also the highest honor CASE awards its nominees.
"These awards reflect the excellence of the communications work being done to tell Indiana University's remarkable story," said Valerie Peña, associate vice president of public affairs and government relations, IU Communications. "They also speak to the talent and creativity of IU's communications and marketing personnel, who have demonstrated a tireless commitment to sharing why IU matters and the important, meaningful work that takes place all across our university."
Inside IU, an online internal newsletter for faculty and staff at all eight IU campuses, won a Silver Award for Internal Audience Publications. The IU Alumni Association won the Silver Award for Magazine Publishing Improvement for its Indiana University Alumni Magazine, which is included in an IUAA membership subscription and is distributed both in print and online.
"We are pleased to earn recognition from our peers," said J T. Forbes, executive director of the IU Alumni Association. "These successes are the result of talented, collaborative staff who believe in IU and its alumni."
While a complete list of the 2013 winners can be found online, the following IU projects also won awards:
- Institutional Websites, Bronze Award: Indiana University School of Education website.
- Alumni Relations Programs, Marketing and Branding, Bronze Award: IU Alumni Association for its "Programs in a Box," which gives volunteers materials to execute effective programming, from game watches to alumni lectures.
- Special Events, Individual Special Events, Bronze Award: IU Foundation Colloquium for Women of Indiana University.
The Council for Advancement and Support of Education is the professional organization for university advancement professionals who work in alumni relations, communications, fundraising, marketing and other areas. Indiana University is part of CASE District V, a district-level program that puts members in competition with colleagues from other institutions in the Midwest.
