Bruder, who earned his bachelor's degree from the School of Journalism at IU Bloomington in 1990, joins IU following a 22-year career in marketing and international trade, including the last five years as a marketing and business development leader at The Hershey Company.

Since late 2010, Bruder has served as vice president and general manager of Hershey's Global Innovation Incubator, where he led the strategic business development work for new brands across a range of product lines for the largest chocolate company in the United States.

In his new role, Bruder will serve as the university's top marketing executive and will be responsible for leading the work to build the IU brand in Indiana and around the world. He reports to William Stephan, IU's vice president for engagement, and will have offices in Indianapolis and Bloomington.

"We are pleased to welcome Eric to Indiana University and look forward to drawing upon his experiences in business and industry, as well as in international affairs, to help lead and guide the ways in which IU is represented to audiences at home, across the country and around the world," Stephan said.

Before joining Hershey, Bruder spent more than a decade in marketing roles at some of the country's most recognizable consumer goods companies, including Unilever Bestfoods and Kraft/Nabisco. He also spent four years as an international trade specialist for the U.S. Department of Commerce, helping American companies develop business opportunities in Eastern Europe, Russia and central Asia.

"It is an honor and a privilege to come back home to Indiana University as the new chief marketing officer," Bruder said. "IU is already an extremely powerful higher education brand, and I am excited to be working with all our outstanding campuses, schools and units to further drive IU's reputation as a world-class academic institution."

In addition to his degree from IU, Bruder earned a master's degree in international affairs from American University and his MBA in marketing from Columbia University. Bruder, his wife, Ann, and their two daughters plan to relocate to the Indianapolis area in the near future.
