Media Advisory: Educational and law enforcement workforce gains cyber security expertise

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oct. 5, 2005

INDIANAPOLIS -- This week, some members of Indiana's educational, law enforcement and non-profit communities are gaining cyber security expertise to protect their employers, through a partnership with Indiana University and the SANS (SysAdmin, Audit, Network, Security) Institute.

The SANS Institute is a national leader in information security, training and certification to provide advanced computer security training and certification. The training is taking place at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown, 350 W. Maryland St., and is one of several security-related activities IU is participating in as part of National Cyber Security Awareness Month. About 250 people from Indiana and other parts of the country will participate in the training Oct. 3-8.

Tom Davis, an information technology security officer for Indiana University, is available for interviews.

In August, Newsweek magazine named IU "Hottest Big State School" for its tradition and embrace of emerging technologies.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Training will take place in Indiana Ballrooms E, F and G. To set up an interview with Tom Davis, please contact Angie Antonopoulos at 317-274-5009 (office) or 317-430-0315 (cell). We recommend that reporters and television crews arrive shortly before the daily breaks or at the conclusion of the daily breaks to minimize disruptions of sessions. Breaks are 10:30 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
