Indiana University online master's degree a "best buy"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oct. 14, 2005

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana University's online master of science degree program in adult education is recognized as a "Best Buy" by GetEducated.com LLC, a national clearinghouse of accredited online degree programs.

The IU School of Continuing Studies program can be completed entirely online, aside from one three-day visit to the Indianapolis campus. It draws students from a broad cross section of the economy -- including the military, medical fields and business -- and prepares them for a variety of jobs in academia, human resources, technical instruction and essentially any sector that requires employee workplace learning and improvement.

"I am pleased to learn that the GetEducated.com clearinghouse has recognized the M.S. in Adult Education as a 'Best Buy,'" said Henry Merrill, chair of the adult education program. "The online course format engages students and faculty in powerful interaction about the current theory and practice of adult learning and development. There is rich dialogue in the courses in which students describe the various ways they apply their knowledge and skills to their workplace context."

GetEducated.com ranked the program 12th in its list of top 25 regionally accredited distance education programs offered at a U.S. education school for less than $9,000. Tuition for the 36-credit-hour program is $7,738 for Indiana residents and $22,334 for nonresidents. The ranking is based on a fall 2005 GetEducated.com LLC survey of publicly-posted tuition rates at 101 education and allied degree programs offered through regionally accredited U.S. universities. Ball State University, also in Indiana, ranked fifth on the list.

IU's master of science degree program in adult education, which dates back to 1946, has been available online since 1998. It is accredited by the North Central Association.

GetEducated.com serves as a clearinghouse for accredited online programs, offering similar rankings in other disciplines. It also offers "Diploma Mill Police," a free online degree accreditation verification service. Visit https://www.geteducated.com/index.asp to learn more about GetEducated.com.
