Indiana University Bloomington Continuing Studies releases first podcast

Podcast highlights 35th annual Mini University

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University Bloomington Continuing Studies plugged in to podcasting with the release of a Mini University podcast on Feb. 7. The 30-minute broadcast, a project developed in conjunction with the IU Alumni Association and produced by IU Bloomington Continuing Studies, features interviews with IU faculty who will be presenting sessions at this summer's 35th annual Mini University.

In addition to touting the always-anticipated Mini University, this podcast is an experiment in what could be a new medium for continuing education courses.

"Podcasts can be downloaded and listened to at the user's convenience, which lends them to be used as a 'portable classroom' for continuing education courses," said Ron White, director of IU Bloomington Continuing Studies. "We developed this podcast with the intention of exploring how they work, and how they would fit into our course curriculum."

Mini University is a weeklong program offered in June featuring some of IU Bloomington's finest faculty teaching "mini-courses" on topics ranging from the arts and humanities to current events, business and health. Recreational and cultural activities round out the program. Cited by Frommer's and MSNBC as one of America's "best learning vacations," Mini University is co-sponsored by IU Bloomington Continuing Studies and the Indiana University Alumni Association.

IU Bloomington Continuing Studies provides opportunities for adults to engage in lifelong learning. Programs include general studies degrees, the Returning Students Center and diverse noncredit courses in Lifelong Learning and Professional Development, Mini University and Leadership Bloomington-Monroe County. All programs draw upon the rich resources of IU Bloomington and are offered on campus and at convenient community locations in Bloomington and the surrounding area.
