Media Advisory -- Announcement Wednesday regarding Circle of Life IU Mini Marathon

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
March 21, 2006

Editors: The Circle of Life IU Mini Marathon, an Indiana University student organization, on Wednesday (March 22) will make a major announcement regarding support for the event from an Evansville-based organization. This event had been rescheduled from Tuesday because of weather conditions. A news conference has been scheduled for 12:30 p.m. in room 3059 of the Kelley School of Business' Godfrey Graduate and Executive Education Center, 1275 E. Tenth St., on the IU Bloomington campus.

The mission of the Circle of Life IU Mini Marathon is to provide one of the nation's largest scholarships for cancer survivors, known as the Bill Z. Littlefield Scholarship for Survivors. The scholarship, named for a Kelley School of Business faculty member who died last summer from cancer, will be awarded to a cancer survivor to attend one of IU's eight campuses.

A parking garage is located to the north and is connected to the Godfrey Center.

The inaugural run on Sept. 9 will be the largest running event in southern Indiana and the state's first collegiate mini marathon. Runners will compete on a road route taking them throughout the IU Bloomington campus. Also lending support is the Lance Armstrong Foundation, which has awarded a $5,000 grant to the project and donated 5,300 yellow LIVESTRONG(r) wristbands for distribution to event attendees; and the IU Cancer Center.
