Mayor Kruzan to speak at Earth Day award ceremony

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.. -- The Indiana University Kelley School of Business will honor the Bloomington Public Transportation Corp. for its environmentally friendly policies at next week's fifth annual Kelley Earth Day Ceremony. The April 19 event will feature Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan and live music.
Two Kelley seniors, Nick Steele and Austin Mault, will perform their song, "Has It Come to This?," written especially for the event. Following their musical welcome, Mayor Kruzan will speak about the importance of environmentally friendly business practices and sustainability issues facing Bloomington. A question-and-answer session led by Commission on Sustainability Chair John Hamilton will follow the mayor's speech.
As Bloomington's state representative from 1986 to 2002 and as mayor since 2004, Kruzan has been a vocal supporter of environmental protection and resource conservation in Bloomington, Monroe County and throughout the state.
Bloomington Transit will be honored with the Kelley Green Award for its use of biodiesel fuel and its other environmental investments, such as purchasing hybrid service vehicles. Nominations for the award were submitted by Kelley School of Business and School of Public and Environmental Affairs students. The top three finalists presented their proposals to the Kelley School's Environmental Policy Committee. Kelley students Austin Crum and Greg Kasavana, who nominated Bloomington Transit, will receive certificates and a $500 award. Runner-up nominators Winston Kotzan (Kelley) and Kelly James (SPEA) will each receive $100 and a certificate of merit.
