Five IU students believed victims in early morning plane crash

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 21, 2006

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Early today (April 21), Indiana University was notified by authorities that the five people who lost their lives in an airplane crash near Monroe County Airport are believed to be students at IU Bloomington.

As of this hour, the identities of the victims have not been positively established by the coroner.

Gwyn Richards, dean of the IU Jacobs School of Music, and other university officials have been at the airport since early this morning to assist the Monroe County coroner in the process of identifying victims.

Because the identities of the victims have not been officially confirmed and next of kin notifications have not been completed, Indiana University is unable to release any information about them at this time.

When the identification and notification process is completed, Indiana University President Adam W. Herbert and other university leaders will conduct a press conference to make brief statements and provide as much information as possible.

The press conference will take place at the Van Buren Township fire station at 5 p.m. today.
