Alchemy enters the academy
A group of researchers is attempting to assemble manuscripts and other historical items associated with the practice of alchemy. "In the popular mind... alchemy is lumped together with necromancy, witchcraft, and astrology. That misconception is based on a romantic view of the occult sciences in the 19th century," says IU Bloomington History and Philosophy of Science Professor William Newman.
