Bloomington chancellor recognizes West Lafayette's Mitchell as one of IU's top students

HOMETOWN NEWS

BLOOMINGTON, Ind -- Paul Mitchell of West Lafayette, Ind., has been named a Chancellor's Scholar at the Bloomington campus of Indiana University. Mitchell, a junior, is a student in IU's School of Public and Environmental Affairs.

The Chancellor's Scholarship honors the best undergraduate students in each school on campus. This distinction involves more than a student's grade point average. It also takes into consideration how students excel academically by performing well, taking leadership roles in different courses, doing outstanding work on research projects and other factors.

Faculty in each school select the student who has most distinguished himself or herself in all phases of academics.

The award, which includes a special book from that academic discipline or membership in a professional society, also carries a scholarship. Presentations were made by IU Bloomington Chancellor Sharon Stephens Brehm and school deans at a recent campus reception. The students selected are in their next-to-last year of study.

Hometown information: Paul Mitchell is the son of Don and Anna Mitchell, 314 Sylvia St., West Lafayette, Ind.
