Nonprofit management symposium, Nov. 3-4
IU SPEA and NonProfit Alliance for Monroe County to host event
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 23, 2006
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Nonprofit professionals and students can learn how to manage volunteers, raise funds and advocate for their organizations at a symposium hosted by the NonProfit Alliance for Monroe County and the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Nov. 3-4, in Bloomington. The symposium, "A Toolkit for Nonprofits," will take place at the Showers Building, 401 N. Morton Street, and is open to the public with advance registration.
The event will feature talks by SPEA faculty and by presenters from the Indiana Coalition for the Arts and the Indiana Conflict Resolution Institute. Topics include conflict and dispute resolution, fund development, advocacy, volunteer management, board development and strategic planning.
"This symposium grew out of a nonprofit consulting package that SPEA faculty developed last spring for a benefit auction event organized by SPEA graduate students," said Kirsten Grønbjerg, professor and the Efroymson Chair in Philanthropy. "Patrick O'Rourke, one of our enterprising students and managing director of Windfall Dancers, conceived of the idea of converting the consulting services into this special opportunity, which we hope will benefit nonprofits across the region."
Grønbjerg will discuss fund raising fundamentals during her session at the symposium. Other featured SPEA professors include Beth Gazley, who will review the provisions of the Sarbanes-Oxley legislation that apply to nonprofit organizations; Bill McGregor, who will focus on strategies for nonprofit organizations; and Leslie Lenkowsky, who will discuss how to manage volunteers for nonprofit organizations.
The symposium will run all day on Nov. 3, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m., and until noon on Nov. 4. Registration costs $35 for professionals and $20 for IU students. For a full schedule and registration information, visit https://www.bloomington.in.us/~npa/events.htm#toolkit.
