Nov. 8, 2006

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University will celebrate International Education Week, officially designated for Nov. 13-17, with a variety of activities, programs and lectures designed to honor and promote international education and exchange.

The opening reception at IU Bloomington is scheduled for Friday (Nov. 10) from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Leo R. Dowling International Center.

International Education Week is an initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education and is now in its seventh year. IEW is celebrated worldwide by colleges and universities, embassies, international organizations, businesses and community organizations, and its aim is to recognize the global exchange environment between the United States and other nations. This year's theme is "International Education: Engaging in Global Partnerships and Opportunities."

The IU Office of International Services, the Leo R. Dowling International Center and members of the Bloomington community have planned a variety of activities with an international focus for the week.

Programs and activities include an International Movie Night featuring the German movie Good Bye Lenin!; a performance by the Moroccan Andalusian Classical Orchestra of Bloomington; and the Bloomington Chinese Artist Performance Group at the Monroe County Public Library.

Also scheduled are an International Education Open House that will focus on study abroad opportunities and an International Family Night designed to provide families with fun activities for children and valuable information related to family services through the City of Bloomington.

IUB provides comprehensive assistance and support for approximately 3,300 international students and 1,500 visiting scholars representing more than 125 countries. It also offers more than 70 study abroad programs.
