Media Advisory: Hundreds of sword-bearing athletes to descend on IU this weekend

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- On Saturday (March 31), more than 700 collegian athletes will descend on Indiana University Bloomington to compete in the 5th annual United States Association of Collegiate Fencing Club's (USACFC) national championships. The contest, held at the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation this year, marks the largest assembly of collegiate fencers in the country each year.
Athletes from more than 35 schools will compete in both individual and team events on Saturday, March 31, and Sunday, April 1. Competitions are held with three types of weapons and events: foil, epee and sabre, for both men and women. Saturday will host individual competitions while Sunday will be mainly devoted to the team competitions.
What: The USACFC National Fencing Championships
Where: The HPER building is located at 1025 E. 7th St. To reach the main basketball courts, enter building through the groundlevel door on the south side of the building, facing the Indiana Memorial Union
When: March 31-April 1. Fencing starts at 9 a.m. both days and should last until 6 p.m. both days. The team finals are expected to be held late Sunday morning.
Parking: Pay parking lots are available across the street to the south at the IMU and to the west of the HPER building.
