INDIANAPOLIS -- A video produced by Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis staff members John Herrin, Angie Antonopoulos, and Michael Jasiak won praise from the Society for Technical Communication (STC) in its International Technical Publications, Art, and Online Communication Competition.

The video, Indiana University Global Research Network Operations Center, received an Excellence Award in the category of Online Communication: Technical Marketing, competing against the very best entries from industries worldwide. The video previously received a Distinguished Award in the STC Chicago Chapter competition.

Antonopoulos and Herrin are part of the Communications and Planning Office, which serves the Indiana University Office of the Vice President for Information Technology (OVPIT), Chief Information Officer and University Information Technology Services (UITS). Michael Jasiak works with UITS Media Design and Production.

The Global Research Network Operations Center (Global NOC) offers support and engineering for several national and international high-speed networks, as well as the Indiana statewide high-speed network for higher education—I-Light. These networks support scholars and scientists in their quest for new discoveries.

"This is a great video deserving of the award," said Garland Elmore, deputy CIO and dean of information technology at IUPUI. "The video describes the activities of those who support and manage these high speed networks and supplies a broader picture of what this center enables in a comprehensive and understandable way."

The video is shown to visitors at the Informatics and Communications Technology Complex on the IUPUI campus, where the Global NOC is situated. It was created and produced in-house by UITS Media Design and Production and CPO on a limited budget. By creating the video in-house, the overall production cost was significantly reduced.

STC competitions are open to all technical communication professionals. With 18,000 members worldwide, STC is the largest organization of its type in the world. For more information about STC, see https://www.stc.org/.

The video also received a Telly Award and a MarCom Creative Award in the scriptwriting category. Telly Awards (https://www.tellyawards.com/) honor outstanding cable TV, video, and film productions. The MarCom Creative Awards, directed by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, is an international competition for marketing and communication professionals who develop, write, and design marketing and communication programs for print, visual, and audio materials.
