BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Webby Awards, the leading international honor for the Web, today named Indiana University's "10 Ways IU is Red Hot" for the Best Web Site in the school category of 2007. The work was produced by the IU Office of Creative Services.

"This is an exciting achievement for Indiana University, and I'm very proud of my team," said IU's Marcia Busch-Jones, director the IU Office of Creative Services. "We were competing against some impressive Web sites created by major agencies, but the fact that we won speaks to the creative abilities of our staff.

"The Web is a major communications channel for IU now and will become even more so in the future. This achievement means we're headed in the right direction, because we're getting international attention for Indiana University," she said.

Hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet" by the New York Times, The 11th Annual Webby Awards received a record 8,000 entries from over 60 countries and all 50 states.

"The Webby Awards honors the outstanding work that is setting the standards for the Internet," said David-Michel Davies, executive director of The Webby Awards. "'10 Ways IU is Red Hot' is a testament to the skill, ingenuity and vision of its creators."

The Webby is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet for Web sites, interactive advertising, online film and video, and mobile Web sites. The awards are judged by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a global organization that includes Harvey Weinstein, Arianna Huffington, Matt Groening, Jamie Oliver, Internet inventor Vinton Cerf, and RealNetworks CEO Rob Glaser.

The Office of Creative Services launched the winning site in 2006 -- after IU was named by Newsweek magazine as the "hottest big state school" in the country -- as part of the overall "IU is Red Hot" campaign. To view IU's winning Web page, "10 Ways IU is Red Hot," go to https://www.redhot.iu.edu/.
