IU students win kitchen and bath design competition

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 8, 2007

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. --Three Indiana University Bloomington students were Indiana State Chapter award recipients in the 2007 National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) Student Design Competition. The students, all of whom recently completed their junior year in the IU Department of Apparel Merchandising and Interior Design (AMID), were recently honored at an awards ceremony in Indianapolis.

The IU interior design students receiving awards were Elizabeth Schaefer, Elizabeth Sutton and Julia Hamilton, who won first, second and third place, respectively, in their competition categories. Further, Schaefer was recognized for having the competition's best overall project, marking the second consecutive year an IU interior design student won that award.

Judged by a panel of industry professionals, the NKBA Student Design Competition acknowledges the talent of kitchen and bathroom designers to plan safe, functional and personalized spaces that incorporate imaginative design statements and aesthetically pleasing solutions. In addition to IU Bloomington, this year's Indiana State Chapter competition included 83 student entries from such participating schools as Purdue University, Indiana State University, Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis and the Art Institute of Indianapolis.

"The NKBA Student Design Competition is an outstanding opportunity for IU design students to apply their classroom and studio skills in a top-level test with other aspiring designers from across the state, " says Cynthia Landis, senior lecturer in the AMID Department. "These students represented our university very well in this year's event, and we were thrilled an IU student was recognized again as the competition's overall winner."
