Trustees to announce interim president Nov. 1
The Board of Trustees of Indiana University plans to name an interim university president at the board's next regularly scheduled monthly business meeting, to be held Nov. 1 on the Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne campus.
William Stephan, IU's vice president for public affairs and government relations, said that Board of Trustees President Frederick F. Eichhorn Jr. also plans to announce at that meeting the members of the search committee that will be assigned the task of finding a permanent successor for IU President Myles Brand.
The business meeting will begin at 3 p.m. Friday (Nov. 1) in Room 222-4-6 of the Walb Student Union building on the IPFW campus. The selection of the interim president and the naming of the members of the search committee are scheduled to be the first two items on the agenda. The Trustees' decision and a news conference to be held with the interim president will be Webcast live at https://www.broadcast.iu.edu.
On Oct. 10, the National Collegiate Athletic Association selected Brand to serve as the new NCAA president. Brand, who has served as IU president for more than eight years, will continue in that role at the university through Dec. 31.
The Trustees met in executive session Wednesday (Oct. 16) at the Indiana Memorial Union to discuss the selection of an interim president, names of nominees for the interim position, and the process by which Brand's successor will be chosen. All nine of the trustees attended the meeting, either in person or by telephone.
Stephan said the board has already received extensive public input on the selection of an interim president. He said that, in choosing the interim president, the board is particularly conscious of the upcoming legislative session and the importance of having a strong advocate for the university's budgetary needs.
Eichhorn has said that the board hopes to complete the process of choosing a permanent successor to Brand by July 1.
