Dedication set Friday for IU's Elmore Entrepreneurial Law Clinic

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bloomington, Ind. -- The Elmore Entrepreneurship Law Clinic at Indiana University will be formally dedicated on Friday, Oct. 5, with a ceremony that will include remarks by IU President Michael McRobbie.

The event will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the clinic, located on the third floor of the Lewis Building, 116 S. Indiana Ave. in Bloomington.

It was named the Elmore Entrepreneurship Law Clinic in recognition of a $3 million gift from David Elmore and his son, D.G. Elmore, to fund scholarships for clinic students, joint J.D./M.B.A. candidates and students with strong interest in business law.

The Elmores are expected to be present at the dedication, as will Lauren Robel, the Val Nolan professor of law dean of the IU School of Law-Bloomington.

The clinic, which is unique in this country, provides third- and fourth-year J.D./M.B.A. students an opportunity to assist start-up ventures with high growth potential with both legal and business planning. The clinic itself is a joint venture between the law school and IU's Kelley School of Business.

"The essence of the clinical experience is the opportunity of the interns to work directly with real entrepreneurs," said Mark Need, clinical associate professor of law and director of the Entrepreneurship Law Clinic. "Dave and D.G. Elmore present a perfect fit for the clinic -- their experience and careers are models for the aspiring entrepreneur or small-business attorney. Their generous gift will pave the way for generations of students to pursue this educational path."

David Elmore earned a bachelor of science degree in 1955 and a law degree in 1958, both from IU. He has developed numerous real estate projects and is owner and chair of The Elmore Sports Group, which owns five minor league baseball teams, a hockey team and companies in areas that include travel, facility management, special-events management and sports marketing. He was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the Kelley School in 1989 and was inducted into the Academy of Law Alumni Fellows in 2006.

D.G. Elmore earned a J.D./M.B.A. degree in 1984. He is chairman and owner of two minor league baseball teams and industry-leading companies in corporate travel management, software development, micro staffing, education publishing and manufacturing. He chairs the law school's J.D./M.B.A. advisory board.
