Former U.S. Rep. McIntosh to speak at IU Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Former U.S. Rep. David M. McIntosh will give a public lecture Tuesday (Oct. 30) at Indiana University Bloomington, speaking about science, lobbying and Congress.
The talk will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Walnut Room of the Indiana Memorial Union, 900 E. Seventh St.
McIntosh represented Indiana's 2nd District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 until 2001 and was the Republican candidate for governor of Indiana in 2000. During the Reagan Administration, he was special assistant to the attorney general and special assistant to the president for domestic affairs. He was executive director of the President's Council on Competitiveness and assistant to the vice president during the first Bush Administration.
A graduate of Yale University and the University of Chicago Law School, McIntosh is now a partner with the law firm Mayer Brown LLP in Washington, D.C. His talk, which is open to the public, will be followed by a question-and-answer session. It is part of an IU Department of Geography course aimed at helping future scientists learn to communicate with policymakers and the media. Faiz Rahman, associate professor of geography, developed and teaches the course.
