MEDIA ADVISORY: IU's first lady to join Gary School officials for announcement Thursday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The first lady of Indiana University on Thursday (Nov. 8) will join Gary School officials for ribbon-cutting at new facilities within two elementary school academies that are working with the IU School of Education.
WHAT: Ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the Science Lab at Frankie W. McCullough Academy for Girls and the Writers' House at Dr. Bernard C. Watson Academy for Boys. The ceremony is to celebrate the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Center for Research and P-16 Collaboration at the IU School of Education and the Gary Community School Corp. to work together in developing the schools for boys and girls in grades four through six.

WHO: IU First Lady Laurie McRobbie, Gary Superintendent Mary Steele-Agee, Gary Assistant Superintendent Myrtle Campbell, IU School of Education Dean Gerardo Gonzalez, as well as principals of the two academies, teachers and students.
EDITORS: The event will feature several visual elements, including students demonstrating the new spaces and explaining what the rooms feature. Interviews are available with Gary and IU administrators, as well as Gary teachers.
