Second Fulbright award presented to IU sociology professor
William Corsaro, the Robert H. Shaffer Class of 1967 Endowed Professor of Sociology at Indiana University, has received a Fulbright Senior Specialists grant for study in Europe.
Corsaro will spend six weeks next spring in Trondheim, Norway at The Norwegian University of Science and Technology and The Norwegian Centre for Child Research to pursue work in his field of children and childhood socialization. He also will participate in a childhood seminar and attend a variety of professional events and seminars.
This is the second Fulbright award for Corsaro, who received one in 1983 for study in Italy.
Corsaro's research interests encompass the sociology of childhood, children's peer cultures from a cross cultural perspective, early childhood education, and ethnographic methods. His published work includes the book The Sociology of Childhood.
The Fulbright Senior Specialists Program presents grants to leading U.S. academics to support curricular and faculty development at higher education institutions in 140 countries around the world.
The program was developed to complement the prestigious Fulbright Scholar Program by increasing the number of scholars able to go abroad on a Fulbright. Because it is for a shorter time than the traditional Fulbright grant, the senior specialists program attracts many faculty members unable to travel overseas for the longer period of time that can range from two months to an entire academic year.
