Indiana Commission on Local Government Reform to release report tomorrow
Gov. Kernan, Chief Justice Shepard to present Commission’s recommendations

INDIANAPOLIS -- Former Governor Joe Kernan and Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall Shepard, co-chairs of the Indiana Commission on Local Government Reform, will hold five news conferences around the state to present the Commission's report "Streamlining Local Government: We've got to stop governing like this."
Developed with assistance from the Indiana University Center for Urban Policy and the Environment, the report recommends steps to make Indiana's local government more efficient, effective, understandable and accountable.
The news conferences will be held tomorrow, Dec. 11, 2007, in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, South Bend, Gary and Evansville. December 11 is Statehood Day, commemorating the day in 1816 when Indiana became the 19th state to join the Union.
Electronic copies of the report will be distributed via e-mail and posted on the Commission Web site at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow. Paper copies will be available at each of the local press conferences.

In the event of inclement weather that prevents the Commission chairs from holding news conferences outside the Indianapolis area, statewide media will be given instructions for participating in a Web-based video presentation and online interviews.
In July 2007, Governor Mitch Daniels formed the bipartisan Indiana Commission on Local Government Reform and named former Governor Joe Kernan and Chief Justice Randall Shepard as its co-chairs. The Indiana University Center for Urban Policy and the Environment staffs the Commission.
