Media advisory: Retailing expert available to discuss Kmart
EDITORS: According to news reports, major discount retailer Kmart Corp. is expected to announce by Friday (Jan. 17) which Kmart stores it plans to close, as part of a plan for which it is seeking bankruptcy court approval. Kmart, once the nation's top retailer and the largest retail company ever to seek bankruptcy protection, has about 1,800 stores nationwide.
Theresa D. Williams, director of the Center for Education and Research in Retailing in Indiana University's Kelley School of Business in Bloomington, is available to discuss these developments and the larger retail picture. She can be reached at 812-855-1289 or thdwilli@indiana.edu.
Williams has directed the Center for Education and Research in Retailing since 1997. She also is co-director of the Kelley School's MBA Retailing and Consumer Marketing Academy. Previously, she was assistant professor and co-director of research for the Merchandising Education and Research Center at IU Bloomington. Before coming to IU, she spent a decade as a buyer and manager for three apparel retailers based in the southern United States.
