Media advisory: Bloomington business, education, government leaders to visit Capitol Hill
Officials from Indiana University, Bloomington and Monroe County government, and the Bloomington business community will travel to Washington, D.C., on Thursday (March 6) to meet with the area's representatives in the U.S. House and Senate.
The purpose of the annual trip is to express appreciation for the legislators' past support for local initiatives and to provide information about ongoing local needs in the areas of economic development and higher education.
The formal economic partnership between Indiana University and the Bloomington community is sponsored by the Bloomington Economic Development Corp. The partnership was established in 1998 to enhance advocacy efforts for IU and the Bloomington area.
IU Interim President Gerald Bepko will head one group during the day-long Capitol Hill visits; Bloomington Mayor John Fernandez will lead the other.
