IU School of Medicine dean teaches, practices and learns at IU's Kenya Project

INDIANAPOLIS — Inspiring and humbling is how D. Craig Brater, dean of the Indiana University School of Medicine, describes his experiences this summer in Eldoret, Kenya, working at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Brater, who also serves as vice president of life sciences at IU, is spending most of June and July at Moi, where IU School of Medicine and Moi University School of Medicine have been working together to train future health care providers since 1989.
Brater is providing weekly reports on his experiences in Kenya which are being posted on the IU School of Medicine Web site at: https://medicine.iu.edu/Kenyapostings.
The Indiana-Kenya Partnership also is home to the Academic Model for Prevention and Treatment of HIV/AIDS (AMPATH), which treats more than 60,000 HIV-positive patients at 18 sites in both urban and rural Kenya. Internationally recognized for its innovative approaches to tackling the HIV-AIDS epidemic, AMPATH has twice been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.
